DOT Project Updates | Monroe County, NY
Elmwood Avenue Repaving
Current Project Status:
Construction will be starting on a new Monroe County Department of Transportation project. The project is located on Elmwood Ave in Brighton (between Goodman St and Clover St). Construction work is scheduled to begin in August 2023.
This project will involve:
- Milling the surface pavement of the street and resurfacing it with new asphalt from Goodman Street to Clover Street, and with Micropave from Clover St to East Avenue (NY Route 96)
- Making necessary adjustments and repairs to curbs, curb cuts, manholes, and other utility features
- Restriping the roadway from its current configuration of 4 lanes (2 in each direction) to 3 lanes (1 in each direction plus a center turn lane, and a 6 ft width bicycle lane on both sides). This is known as a "road diet" or "4:3 conversion"
The project's goals are to maintain roadway integrity through preventative maintenance of pavement and infrastructure, and to increase roadway safety for drivers, pedestrians, and people using bicycles and mobility devices while maintaining traffic capacity and avoiding congestion.
The Federal Highway Administration has a number of resources providing more information about road diets and addressing common questions and misconceptions about these projects
