TOWN EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Current Job Opportunities

As a public employer, hiring at the Town of Brighton is regulated by New York State Civil Service Law, which is intended to ensure that positions in government are filled by qualified applicants. Under Civil Service Law, the Civil Service Commission of Monroe County handles the administration of regulations concerning "classified" service, which includes competitive class, non-competitive class, labor class, and exempt employees. The commission does not have jurisdiction over the "unclassified" service, which includes only elected and certain appointed officials. With the exception of labor class jobs, and a small number of confidential positions, our full-time positions are filled by candidates who successfully pass an appropriate Civil Service examination for the position for which they are applying.

Open positions in the Town of Brighton will be posted on official bulletin boards in Town buildings, on the Town website, and on popular online job boards. In all cases, applicants will be asked to complete an application and submit a resume of qualifications.

The Town of Brighton interviews, reviews, and selects candidates based on qualifications for specific job openings. Where a Civil Service list exists for a competitive position, candidates on the list will be canvassed for eligibility. You can find a list of all Monroe County Civil Service job descriptions on their website at https://www.monroecounty.gov/hr-specs#p. You may also contact the Monroe County Department of Human Resources at (585) 428-5550 or online at https://www.monroecounty.gov/hr for more information.
